Field Drawing & Model Study

Architecture · 2025

Poiesis III ·with Lawrence Cai

A non-hierarchical system in which local interactions generate overall spatial order.

Rather than composing a single object, the study explores how repeated elements can vary, overlap, and respond to one another, so that openness, compression, and transition emerge gradually rather than abruptly.

From two houses

The study began with two vernacular precedents. The Dai stilted house lifts its mass to create shaded, permeable ground. The rammed earth house shapes climate and hierarchy through solidity, thickness, and enclosure. Their geometric rules became a shared language.

Making as thinking

Working between drawing and model made scale, depth, and spatial relationships easier to understand. Minor changes in geometry could significantly affect circulation, enclosure, and visual permeability.
